As you can see the background is a little blurred, but not significantly so; that said, it’s virtually the same as you’d achieve with an 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 kit zoom on an EOS body with an APSC sensor at 55mm f5.6 / 88mm equivalent. The EOS M5 may be comfortably smaller and lighter than, say, the EOS 80D, but the G1X Mark III is comfortably smaller and lighter still. If we’re being picky, the viewfinder magnification is smaller than I’d like on the G1X Mark III, but there’s nothing wrong with the clarity, nor the flexibility of the articulated touchscreen.
